BitTorrent and the Legitimate Use of P2P
Joe Stewart wrote a short article about BitTorrent and the legitimate use of P2P networks. It was written back in 2004 but I believe it still speaks of things that are relevant today.
It seems that some people still think that BitTorrent is evil but do not understand that BitTorrent is simply a protocol and nothing more. It allows developers to create clients that can download pirated software, movies, and music. Ultimately, it’s the people using these BitTorrent clients (like uTorrent) that download the pirated software.
As explained in the article there are many ways to use the BitTorrent protocol legitimately. If you don’t believe me just check out LinuxTracker.org, it provides a central location to download open source software such as Linux and BSD distributions.
Cheers!
